Today I am 9 days post surgery. Right knee. Getting a knee replacement was long overdue. I am finding that recovery is going to be a long, tedious process and is different for everyone.

My pain is pretty well controlled at this stage of rehab, but I'm struggling with a lot of swelling and stiffness, mostly above my knee, which makes walking normally, even with the aid of a walker, pretty challenging. And because I'm constantly tied to a walker, carrying things around the house is virtually impossible, making me pretty useless.

Right now I am 100% reliant on this guy. My husband, Brent.

Following a gentle kiss on the lips, his first words to me when I wake up every morning are, "What would you like for breakfast?" And then he makes me whatever I want.

I help with meal planning and I can sit and chop veggies for salad or...whatever, but he pretty much does everything else. And all my needs are met. He does all the mundane, domestic chores while continuing to do his regular day job from home. I honestly couldn't get through this rehab without him.

So, now that I'm 9 days in and it's becoming clear that we're in it for several more weeks before we can return to some semblance of normalcy, I'm needing a good distraction.

Quilting and blogging have always been things I could turn to to keep my mind occupied and my hands busy. So here we are.

In subsequent posts, I'll be writing all about the knee replacement from choosing the surgeon and pre-surgery preparations to the progress I'm making as I go. Additionally, I'll be posting pics and updates on the quilt top I've decided to construct while I go through rehab.

If no one ever reads it, because, y'know, it is kind of a weird combo of things, it's perfectly fine. It's mostly for my benefit anyway.

As for today, however, here's to getting through day 9!
