The Quilt

The quilt pattern and fabrics I decided on will result in a total departure from what I usually do.

Most of the quilts I've made are very geometric (straight lines) with lots of sashing and a nice border around all four sides.

Here are some pics of a few of my previous creations:

The quilt I'm starting on now will consist of 80  "Orange Peel" blocks. The pic below shows 4 blocks.

There are multiple ways to construct a block, most of which consist of using various tools and materials to make the "leaf" shape and then appliqueing it onto a square of fabric.

Since I'm not a fan of appliqued quilts, I'm cutting the pieces individually and sewing them together. I'm not afraid of sewing curves, even when it means sewing a concave piece to a convex piece. I mean, I've been sewing apparel since I was 7 years old.

All the fabrics are part of the Laundry Basket Linen Textures II collection by Andover. I bought a stack of fat quarters for another project and most of what I'll be using in this quilt are the leftovers.

The reds and oranges (and maybe the yellows) will be the petal shape and the blues and greens will be the background. It will all be arranged in a completely random pattern.

My mock-up is a little rough. Hopefully it will look a lot better than this.

I'm a little scared. Fingers crossed I like it when it's done!
